Into Orbit | for piano trio (2019)

instrumentation: vln, vc, & pno

duration: 11'

written for Xinqu Li

  • Into Orbit was composed in the spring of 2019 with the aim of exploring the mysteries of the universe that have always fascinated me. The piece is written for piano trio and focuses on creating unique sound textures that are passed between the three instruments. The first movement uses continuous arpeggios to convey the majestic beauty of complex planets in the Milky Way. The second movement is even more intense, with crashing and blending galaxies being its inspiration. To create this effect, I incorporated tone clusters in the strings that feature chromatic intervals.
